If you start from Urumqi, we do not recommend rushing to Kanas in only 2-3 days. Most guests will have a better experience by including Kanas in a 7-10 day Northern Xinjiang route with Hemu, Burqin, Sayram Lake, Ili or Duku Highway.
How to get to Kanas Lake
Most travelers start from Urumqi and enter the Kanas area via Burqin or Altay. In some seasons, a regional flight can reduce long driving time. For families, elderly travelers and small groups, a private vehicle with a local driver is more flexible for weather, energy level and scenic-area queues.
