Nalati Grassland Travel Guide
Places, seasons, transfers and practical details to shape your journey.

Quick facts
Why visit Nalati Grassland?
Nalati is not defined by one single viewpoint. Its appeal comes from sky meadow scenery, valley grassland, forest edges, horses, pasture atmosphere and the wider Ili mountain-road journey. For families, seniors and first-time grassland travelers, Nalati is one of the easiest places to love.
Sky meadow
The best-known Nalati scenery comes from its sky meadow areas: open, layered and highly photogenic.
Valley grassland
The valley grassland areas feel easier-paced and often suit families and guests who prefer less walking.
Summer pasture
Horses, yurts, forest edges and mountain views create a very classic Ili grassland experience.
Duku and Ili pairing
Nalati fits naturally into Duku Highway and wider Ili grassland routes.
Best time to visit Nalati Grassland
| May | Early season grassland recovery depends more on the year’s weather pattern. |
|---|---|
| June-July | The most stable summer period for grassland scenery, especially good for families and first-time visitors. |
| August | The scenery remains strong, but summer holiday crowds can be more noticeable. |
| September | A calmer grassland season begins, pairing well with Sayram Lake and Duku routes. |
| After Oct | Weather becomes colder and the route enters a very different seasonal travel pattern. |
Stay for the evening. Wake in the grassland.
An RV night in Nalati changes the rhythm of the visit. After the day’s drive, settle into a permitted campsite inside the scenic area and keep the evening for the grassland, rather than another transfer to town.

Evening: arrive, pause and explore
On our 10-day Ili, Hemu and Kanas itinerary, the Duku Highway day reaches Nalati around 19:00. The plan leaves approximately four hours for River Valley Grassland, sunset and the evening sky in the long-day season. Take photographs, enjoy a walk or picnic, or discuss an arranged horse ride. Sunset times and activities vary with your dates.
Night: camp in your RV
Sleep in your RV at the scenic-area campsite. A wooden cabin is not the Nalati overnight arrangement on these featured RV routes. Enjoy the evening close to the landscape, with stargazing when skies are clear; campsite facilities and your sleeping arrangements are confirmed before booking.
Morning: sunrise, then Sky Grassland
Wake with the grassland outside, then continue to the open areas of Sky Grassland. The 10-day Ili, Hemu and Kanas route allows approximately four hours before travelling to Yining. For a fuller Nalati stay, the 10-day Ili and Sayram route includes two RV nights, with a full scenic day for Sky Grassland and Panlong Valley Road.
Our team tailors the pace to your available time. Scenic-area vehicle entry, open roads and campsite reservations are arranged for your dates; activities take place in permitted areas.
Getting there and staying longer
Approach Nalati from Yining, Xinyuan or an open section of the Duku Highway. From Yining, allow roughly three hours or more each way, plus scenic transfers.
Featured routes use a permitted scenic RV campsite to keep evening and morning time in the grassland. Open areas may include Sky Grassland, River Valley Grassland and Panlong Valley Road, with walks, photography or separately arranged riding. Vehicle entry, open scenic roads, campsites and utilities are confirmed for your dates. Stop and camp only in permitted or designated areas; sunset, morning light and stars depend on weather and season.

Best fit
Good for families, seniors, photography and light outdoor travel; less ideal for very rushed multi-stop itineraries.
FAQ
Is Nalati Grassland worth visiting?
Yes. Nalati is one of Ili’s classic grassland destinations, especially for travelers who enjoy open meadows, horses, mountain scenery and summer landscapes.
What is the best month to visit Nalati?
June to September is generally best. Summer is the most stable for green grassland, while September can feel calmer and pairs well with other Ili destinations.
How many days should I spend in Nalati?
Choose one RV night for an evening and morning in the grassland, or two nights for a full scenic day in between. We tailor the choice to your available time and onward route.
Is Nalati suitable for elderly travelers?
It can be suitable if the route is not rushed. A private vehicle, flexible stops and reasonable rest time usually make the visit easier.
What can we do at Nalati?
Sky-grassland viewpoints, grassland hikes, horse riding, Kazakh yurt experiences and sunrise-to-sunset photography — easily a full day inside the scenic area.
What is the altitude at Nalati?
Plan high-altitude travel around health and acclimatisation. Children can also develop altitude illness. Seek medical advice before travel if you have a heart or lung condition. Stop ascending if symptoms develop; worsening symptoms require descent and medical help.
