Less Road. More Xinjiang.
Xinjiang Travel from Singapore
Places, seasons, transfers and practical details to shape your journey.

One-line answer
30-day visa-free entry, halal-friendly food, and the same timezone as Singapore — the only things you need for a Xinjiang trip are a solid route and the courage to book it.
Xinjiang? From Singapore? Yes, and It’s Easier Than You Think
Okay, straight talk: Xinjiang is big, far, and amazing — and yes, it’s actually very doable from Singapore. No visa needed (30 days, more on that below), the food is halal-friendly, the scenery is ridiculous, and it’s the same timezone as us, so no jet lag to deal with. Think wide-open grasslands, turquoise lakes, snow mountains and old cities that feel like a different century. Best part? You don’t need to plan it yourself — we handle everything, you just enjoy.
Getting here from Singapore
Compare services for your dates, including connections through other Chinese hubs to Urumqi, Yining or Kashgar. Direct and connecting flight availability depends on the airline’s current schedule. Allow for baggage, immigration and connection time.
China’s official time and Singapore are both UTC+8; follow the times shown in your itinerary.
Passports and entry
Singapore ordinary passport holders can use the reciprocal visa exemption for stays of up to 30 days, subject to the applicable purpose and entry conditions. Check the latest requirements before booking; other passports follow their own rules.
Food: Halal-Friendly, and Honestly Amazing
Here’s the thing Singaporeans love to hear: Xinjiang is one of the most halal-friendly regions in China. Mutton, beef, hand-pulled noodles, naan, pilaf, kebabs — the food culture here is basically made for us.
You’ve probably tried Xinjiang food in Singapore — places like Aisyah near Haji Lane, Yi Zun Noodle at Joo Chiat, Afanti — the real thing tastes even better, and the mutton has zero gamey smell, can trust us on this one.
Confirm halal meals against the restaurant and your own standards, including certification, ingredients, utensils and allergies.
One heads-up: the food here is rich and the fruits are dangerously sweet. Pack some digestive tablets and drink plenty of water.
When to Go & What’s Different from SG
Xinjiang in summer is basically the perfect escape from Singapore’s heat: highs around 25–30°C in the north, dry air, and evenings that actually cool down. Autumn (mid-September to early October) brings the famous golden Kanas and Hemu colours.
What might surprise you: it’s dry. Like, really dry — lip balm and moisturiser are non-negotiable. Temperature swings are big (15–20°C day to night), so layers matter even in summer.
Distances are huge — cities are hours apart, so smart routing matters (that’s our job). Security checks are common but quick; always carry your passport.
Payments: Alipay and WeChat Pay rule here. Link an international card before you fly, and keep a bit of cash for remote spots.
Suggested Itineraries for Singapore Travelers
8–10 days, North Xinjiang classic: Urumqi – Sayram Lake – Nalati – Duku Highway – Kanas & Hemu. Grasslands, lakes and autumn colours in one loop. Great for first-timers and families.
10–12 days, North + South: add Kashgar Old City and the Pamir Plateau — culture and mountains in one trip, very the worth it.
Family tip: our RV-with-driver tours are a hit with SG families — kids get space to move, parents get air-con, and everyone sleeps inside the scenery. Or go with a private van + driver if you prefer hotels every night.
Internal flights save serious time (Urumqi–Kanas is about 1.5 hours vs a full day by road) — we build those into the route where it makes sense.
Common questions
Confirm passport entry conditions, then choose north, south or a combined journey to suit your holiday. Our featured Ili and Sayram route takes ten days; consider the twelve-day combination to include Kanas and Hemu.
