Xinjiang Grand Discovery: A Luxury Private Journey Across Pamir Plateau, Golden Poplar Forests & Sayram Lake · 14 Days
14-Day Private Journey: Pamir Plateau, Golden Poplar Forests & Sayram Lake

A once‑in‑a‑season journey across the Pamir Highway and the Tianshan valleys, designed for travellers who value deep culture, premium hotels and private comfort.
Why this route works
- 🚄✈️ Smart transport — two flights + one high-speed rail + business van, the most efficient way to experience South AND North Xinjiang in one seamless journey:
- This route is the ultimate Xinjiang grand loop — starting in Kashgar (South Xinjiang), ending in Urumqi (North Xinjiang) — connected by two smart flights and one high-speed rail that save thousands of kilometres of empty highway, with business van covering the cultural and scenic sections in between.
- Kashgar → Kuqa (direct flight, D5): A morning flight from Kashgar to Kuqa — about 1.5 hours instead of a full day driving across the Taklamakan Desert. A business van meets you at the airport, you check into your hotel, and by the afternoon you're ready to explore the Shaya Poplar Forest or the Tianshan Grand Canyon. Without this flight, you'd spend 8-10 hours on a desert highway with nothing but sand.
- Kuqa → Yining (direct flight, D8): A morning flight from Kuqa to Yining — about 1.5 hours instead of 12 hours of mountain driving through the Duku Highway (or two days of winding roads). A business van meets you at the airport, and by the afternoon you're already walking through Yining's colorful Six-Star Street, tasting local food. This flight alone saves you a full day of mountain driving.
- Bole → Urumqi (high-speed rail, D12): After a full VIP loop of Sayram Lake, you take the high-speed rail from Bole to Urumqi — about 4.5 hours instead of 6 hours on the empty Gobi highway. You arrive in Urumqi in the evening, check into your hotel, and have the next day free for Tianchi Lake or the Xinjiang Museum. The high-speed rail is comfortable, air-conditioned, and arrives on time — no traffic jams, no driver fatigue.
- What all three transport legs have in common: Depart in the morning, arrive by midday or evening, and your time is used at the destination — not wasted on a highway. The remaining days are all short business-van drives between scenic spots, none exceeding 3-4 hours. No day is spent fully in a vehicle. No 8-hour bus rides.
- The result: 2 flights + 1 high-speed rail = roughly 2,000+ km of highway skipped. In one trip, you experience the Pamir Plateau of South Xinjiang, the poplar forests and canyons of Kuqa, the Ili grasslands of Yining and Nalati, Sayram Lake, and the Urumqi region — covering the full diversity of Xinjiang from south to north, without a single exhausting drive.
- 🏨 Accommodation — 13 nights, mostly 5-diamond hotels, with 1.5 days inside Nalati and a 90km VIP loop of Sayram Lake:
- Kashgar 5-diamond 3 nights (unpack once — same hotel, explore the Old City across two days), Tashkurgan 4-diamond 1 night (with underfloor heating/oxygen for high-altitude comfort), Kuqa 5-diamond 3 nights (unpack once — same hotel, explore the canyons, poplar forests, and desert across three days), Yining 5-diamond 2 nights (unpack once), Nalati Town 4-diamond 1 night, Sayram Lake hotel 1 night, Urumqi 5-diamond 2 nights (unpack once). Every single night in a comfortable hotel — no camping, no roughing it. With Kashgar 3 consecutive nights, Kuqa 3 consecutive nights, and Yining 2 consecutive nights, you only repack 7 times in 14 days. Most nights are 5-diamond — the highest standard of comfort. The Tashkurgan hotel has underfloor heating and oxygen supply, ensuring comfortable sleep at 3,100m.
- 🏜️ Scenic highlights — every stop earns its place:
- Kashgar (D1-D2, D4): The living Silk Road city — the Old City labyrinth, the Id Kah Mosque, the Apak Hoja Mausoleum (Fragrant Concubine's Tomb), and the century-old teahouse. Two full days to explore at your own pace, no schedule, no rushing.
- Pamir Plateau (D3-D4): The Karakoram Highway, Muztagh Ata glacier (7,546m), Karakul Lake's mirror reflection, White Sand Lake's turquoise water, Dragon Road's 600 bends, and Bandir Blue Lake. Overnight in Tashkurgan with underfloor heating and oxygen supply. (Return to Kashgar the next day.)
- Kuqa (D5-D7): Three consecutive nights, three full days — the Taklamakan Desert, the Shaya Poplar Forest (peak golden in early November), the red sandstone Tianshan Mystic Grand Canyon, and the Kuqa Royal Palace. You can even go back to the hotel for a rest in the middle of the day.
- Yining & Nalati (D8-D10): Yining's Six-Star Street for food and culture. Then 1.5 full days inside Nalati with VIP access — one afternoon for the Valley Meadow, the next morning for the Sky Meadow. This is the most in-depth way to experience Nalati without sleeping in a tent.
- Sayram Lake (D11-D12): Xinjiang's most beautiful alpine lake, 90km VIP loop — you drive the entire circle with dedicated VIP access, spending at least 4 hours exploring. Swan Lake, Songshutou, Kelayongzhu. Stay at a hotel by the lake. Then continue exploring the next morning before taking the high-speed rail to Urumqi.
- Urumqi (D13): Choose between Tianchi Lake (Heavenly Lake of the Tianshan) or the Xinjiang Regional Museum — a gentle end to the journey.
